The New York Mets
As one of baseball's first expansion teams, the New York Mets are based in Queens, New York City and belong to Major League Baseball's national League East Division. They were founded in 1962 to replace the previous National League teams of New York, the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Giants. In honor the previous New York teams, the Mets uniform colors are Dodgers blue, Giants orange, and white with their logo of the word “mets” on top of a silhouette of New York City inside the cutout of a baseball. In 1962, their first season as a team, the Mets played their worst season, ending with a record of 40-120. It wasn't until the 1969 World Series that they began to turn their game by defeating the Baltimore Orioles, making it one of the biggest upsets in World Series history. This game, however, also gave the Mets their infamous nickname, the “Miracle Mets,” as they went from never finishing better than second to last until 1969 where they brought home their first World Series championship.
In total, they have 2 World Series titles, 4 National League pennants, and 5 East Division titles. In the first years of their establishment, the Mets played at Polo Grounds followed by Shea Stadium up until 2008. It wasn't until 2009 when the team moved to Citi Field, built as a replacement for Shea Stadium, which has been their home field ever since. Although the Mets may not have been doing so well in their previous seasons, the spirit and encouragement from their home state has helped them along as they slowly progress throughout the season.
