Founded in Philadelphia in 1946, the Warriors and were an original charter member of the NBA, then called the Basketball Association of America. In 1962, the team relocated to San Francisco. In 1966, they officially changed their name to the Golden State Warriors. The team was marked with early success, garnering a huge following of fans and signing some big name players. After their stint in San Francisco, the team distanced themselves from the city where they did not have their own arena, preferring to play in Oakland where there was a brand new stadium.
