The White Sox

As one of the 8 American League charter franchises, the Chicago White Sox are located in Chicago, Illinois and play in the American League's Central Division. They were officially a major league baseball club in 1900 and were originally called the Chicago White Stockings after the Cubs had abandoned it. After a while, they officially shortened their name to the Chicago White Sox because it's believed newspapers and other print sources were always shortening their name. Their uniform colors consist of black, silver, and white and their current logo is the world “sox,” overlapping and written in calligraphy. They are commonly nicknamed the Sox, the ChiSox, the South Siders, and the Hitless Wonders. Unlike many other teams, the White Sox had 2 baseball fields to serve as their home field before finally getting US Cellular Field in 1991 to become their permanent home field. It was originally called New Comiskey Park and later on, nicknamed “The Cell” by local townspeople.

In the very beginning of their season, the White Sox were one of the stronger teams and won their first World Series in 1906. They continued on to winning 2 more in 1917 and 2005. The 1919 World Series was called the “Black Sox Scandal” due to many people believing that many of the members of the White Sox were conspiring with gamblers to purposefully lose games. These members were immediately banned from Major League Baseball for life, these included Eddie Cicotte and Joe Jackson, two of the White Sox’s prominent players. The team slowly redeemed themselves although it did take them a while until they were able to win another World Series Championship. In their more recent years, they’ve had their highs and lows, ending the 2013 season with the second worst record in the league, losing 99 games. This marked the first time the White Sox had lost more than 95 games since their 1976 season. Being from the same city as their biggest rival, the Chicago Cubs, the White Sox hope to bring in a victory before their competition.
