Philadelphia Eagles

After the Frankford Yellow Jackets went bankrupt in the 1930's, the NFL eventually granted a franchise to the Bell-Wray group who named the franchise the Philadelphia Eagles. They were officially established in 1933 and are currently members of the NFC East in the NFL. In their early years as a team, the Eagles struggled in their first decade having multiple losing seasons. In the 1940's, the team had a setback with World War II occurring and it made it hard for the roster to be filled with so many men enlisting. In order for the roster to be full, they joined with the Pittsburgh Steelers and by the end of 1943, they had dissolved into their own teams again. By 1960, the Eagles had won their third NFL championship under head coach Buck Shaw. They were the only team in that year to defeat the Green Bay Packers. They did well for another season but declined again in 1962 when the franchise was sold to Jerry Wolman and then again to Leonard Tose in 1969. In 1970, the AFL and NFL merged which intensified the already existing rivalry with the Giants and the Eagles.

In 2009, Eagles signed quarterback Michael Vick who took the Eagles to an NFC East Division Championship in 2010 but in 2011, they ended 8-8 without advancing to the playoffs. He was signed on after his conviction for his dog fight investigation and was suspended from the NFL for player conduct policy. Previously, he was the quarterback for the Falcons and after his suspension, the Falcons had revealed that they were looking to trade Vick to another NFL team which is when the Eagles signed him. Entering the new season, the Eagles hired new head coach Chip Kelly to lead the team to success. Although the team does have a big fan base, their fans are also known for their bad behavior, especially in games against their rivals. With a rival team in almost every division including their own, the Philadelphia Eagles are hoping to make it to the playoffs once again and beat their long standing rivals, the Giants.

Already a dominant team in their division, the eagles added on seven rookies from the 2014 draft, their first round pick being offensive linebacker Marcus Smith from Louisville. With Smith as an addition to the team was a huge win for Eagles since that was the one player they had their eyes on from the beginning. In the second round, they chose wide receiver Jordan Matthews from Vanderbilt. Matthews was signed on along with undrafted kicker Carey Spears who was a former teammate at Vanderbilt. The remainder of their draft picks were wide receiver Josh Huff from Oregon, cornerback Jaylen Watkins from Florida, defensive end Taylor hard from Oregon, safety Ed Reynolds from Stanford, and defensive tackle Beau Allen from Wisconsin. With their offseason workouts to start soon, the Eagles prepare themselves for their preseason opener against the Chicago Bears.
